Guidelines for Online WEB Page

Maintained by the New England Regional service committee of Narcotics Anonymous Website Subcommittee. Revision 6, October 11, 2006

We have published these guidelines on the Internet to share "our experience, strength and hope" with other Groups, Areas and Regions of NA. We trust that addicts who view these pages will help us conform with the spiritual principles that make our recovery possible and to keep information such as meeting schedules up-to-date.

Purpose

Our purpose in putting information on the Internet is to inform addicts and professionals about Narcotics Anonymous in the New England Region of NA. Historical Note. The New England Region of NA currently comprises eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. At one time it included five of the six New England states and even parts of Canada. Due to the growth of NA, the original New England Region has subdivided several times but, for historical reasons, the name of our "subdivision" has remained unchanged.

Responsibility/Accountability

Placing information online is a responsibility of the Website Subcommittee of the New England Region. We are accountable to the New England Regional Service Committee in accordance with our Twelve Traditions, New England Region guidelines, and guidelines from the World Service Conference Public Information Committee about online information. Actual work on the web pages is carried out by a web page coordinator (and/or alternates) appointed by the Website Chairperson and confirmed by the Website Subcommittee. The web page coordinator (and alternates) should have some technical knowledge, for example, about the HTML scripting language, FTP, and similar technical issues.

Accessibility

We recognize that online information is currently accessible to a relatively large number of people and we will attempt to make online information useful for the broadest possible audience. With this in mind, we will do the following:

Copyright Law

To ensure compliance with copyright laws, we will not place material copyrighted elsewhere on our pages. We may, in accordance with current NAWS suggested online guidelines, use the words Narcotics Anonymous, the stylized initials NA, appearing alone, within a single or double circle, or as part of any other graphic; and the circle-diamond symbol, which are registered trademarks of Narcotics Anonymous World Services, Inc. Refer to F.I.P.T. document #1 for more information.

To contact the Narcotics Anonymous World Service Office visit the NAWS web site at http:/www.na.org.

Privacy

Since information made accessible by the Internet can be accessed from all over the world, we will include phone numbers or email addresses of any individual NA members only with their specific written permission. We can also publish phone numbers of help-lines, hotlines, and NA service offices, and email addresses belonging to the New England Region of NA.

Back Up

To ensure that materials remain available in the event of server or personnel problems, the Web Site Chair or alternate will maintain a back-up copy of all current files whenever changes are made.

Contents

The web page will contain:

  1. Meeting schedules for NA groups belonging to the New England Region.
  2. An HTTP link to the World Service Office of Narcotics Anonymous.
  3. An E-mail link for sending messages to the Region
  4. Posting of upcoming events, conventions, etc.

These guidelines:

Material submitted for the website: Material submitted for uploading to the website, other than the meeting list, must be reviewed by the Regional Website Subcommittee. We will edit only to correct typos and misspellings; if more extensive rework is necessary, it will be returned to the originator. The Website Subcommittee shall only post flyers from NA sponsored events within the area served by NA New England.

Mail Maintenance: All pertinent email (that is, email of significance to our region; at the WEB Coordinator’s discretion) will be logged and/or stored and copies provided for viewing to the RSC body.
